On July 8, the Board of Directors, along with the General Manager of Dakota Dunes Golf Links, announced  that construction has begun on a new clubhouse. The 7,100 square foot project will replace the existing temporary clubhouse with a two-story facility that features locker rooms, meeting space, and club storage.The clubhouse will also include an expanded pro-shop and a restaurant with seating capacity for up to eighty people.

The new clubhouse is a welcome development for a golf course that has been ranked as one of the best in Canada. General Manager McLaren Taylor spoke about the positive impact it will have on business. He said “this new building has all the amenities we need to expand our business and provide a more comfortable experience to our members and patrons.”

As well as opening the door to new business, the clubhouse will enhance existing events. While attending the annual PGA Tour Canada Dakota Dunes Open this past weekend, PGA Tour Canada President Jeff Monday commented on the new clubhouse. “We are excited about the construction of a new clubhouse and the expanded facilities as it will give us the opportunity to do even more to connect the fans with the players at the Dakota Dunes Open.”

Dakota Dunes Golf Links Board Chair and Chief of Whitecap Dakota First Nation, Darcy Bear spoke about the benefits of the $3.3 million dollar project for Whitecap and the Saskatoon region. “The Dakota Dunes Golf links has been an incredible success for our Province and our partners. The new clubhouse will bring a renewed interest to the Dunes and the course will continue to drive tourism dollars to our region.” said Bear.

At the event, board members Chief Cliff Tawpisin of Muskeg Lake Cree Nation and Russell Roberts, CEO of Kitsaki Management spoke about the value of the partnership and then unveiled the architectural rendering of the new clubhouse. Construction has already begun and the clubhouse will be open for business in May 2015.

The Weather is (slowly) getiing warmer and the Golf Course will be open soon, but you can visit the restaurant right now and check out the new menu. The Restaurant will be open for breakfast and lunch from 8am to 2pm beginning this Friday and throughout the weekend.

Whitecap Dakota School students prepare to recite a kinship poem in the Dakota language at E.D. Feehan School Monday. Nearly 400 students from grades 3 to 5 gathered at the school to share their indigenous languages at the Love Your Language – Speak With Pride event. Students also attended sessions on drumming, storytelling, dance, uses of the buffalo, plant uses and teepee raising.

Privacy and your Electronic Medical Record

Whitecap Dakota First Nation and Saskatoon Health Region are working together to deliver your health services at the Whitecap Dakota First Nation Health Centre. To improve the quality of your health care, an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) secure computer program now stores your personal health information. The EMR system has been in place at the Whitecap Dakota First Nation Health Centre since July 31, 2013 but similar systems have been successfully used in Saskatchewan since 2009.

Why use EMR?
The EMR system provides better security of your health information than paper charts and files. EMR also makes health records easy to read and improves efficiency in the delivery of your health services.

What personal health information is collected?
The same information routinely entered in a medical chart is now stored in your EMR. This includes things like:
• Name, address, date of birth
• Health services number
• Status number
• Medical history, treatment notes, prescriptions, lab test results

Who has access to EMR?
Only health care providers directly involved in your care have access to your health information.

Each provider is permitted access only to the portions of your health information appropriate to the level of care they are providing. For example, nurses see medical information while receptionists do not. Receptionists that book appointments have permission to access only information such as your name, address, date of birth, status and health services number.

Is EMR information secure and confidential?
Yes. All Whitecap Dakota First Nation Health Centre employees sign legally-binding confidentiality agreements and take great care to protect your personal health information. Your health information is only shared with another health care provider if they are granted permission to access this information and if they are directly involved in your care.

Each health care provider is given a unique password so that access to your EMR is permanently tracked in the system with the time, date and the name of the person who looked at your information. Random audits are conducted on the EMR system to further ensure its appropriate use, and to deter any “snooping around”. Your EMR is not stored on any local computers at Whitecap Dakota First Nation Health Centre.
